ADDICTION GENESIS

THE GENESIS

Heya, this blogging platform is here to make you understand everything you need to know about addiction, from the common ones you have heard about to the uncommon ones you have not even thought of or considered as addiction.
We cannot delve into the subject of addiction without knowing what the term ‘addiction’ actually means.

WHAT DOES ADDICTION MEAN?
Basically, addiction is a compelling or irresistible need for a substance or an activity, not considering the adverse effects it tends to have on the individual. It is a repeated involvement in a substance or activity.
With this definition, we can put addiction into two categories:
⦁ Behavioral addiction
⦁ Substance addiction

BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION
Behavioral addictions or non-substance addictions are a set of behaviors that a person becomes dependent on and craves. They are activities that an individual tends to do all the time without having the control to stop. Examples are sex addiction, masturbation and pyromania.

SUBSTANCE ADDICTION
Substance abuse can be said to be different from substance addiction. Abuse is when you use substances like drugs in ways you should not but addiction is when you cannot stop. It is a chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that compulsive and difficult to control despite harmful consequences.
