Hey there !!!, addict doctors welcome you to another exciting edition.Today’s topic for discussion is KLEPTOMANIA (compulsive stealing). WHAT IS KLEPTOMANIA.

This type of stealing is about a psychological compulsion instead of a desire to profit or gain something material or financial, it is a recurrent failure to resist the urge to steal.
In most cases of kleptomania the person steals things that they don’t need. The items stolen are often of little to no value, and they could easily afford the item if they decide to pay.

CAUSES OF KLEPTOMANIA
✔ Some people steal as a means to survive due to Economic hardship.
✔ It can also be caused by Jealousy, low self esteem, or peer pressure.
✔️people with kleptomania feel strong urges to steal, with anxiety, tension, and arousal leading up to the theft and feeling pleasure and relief during the theft.

RISK FACTORS ( cause)
◼️A family history of kleptomania or addiction disorder.
◼️Being females, as two-third of the people diagnosed with kleptomania are women.

SYMPTOMS OF KLEPTOMANIA

⚫️Inability to resist powerful urges to steal items that you don’t need.
⚫️Feeling increased tension,anxiety or arousal leading up to the theft.
⚫️Feeling pleasure, relief or gratification while stealing.
⚫️Feeling terrible guilt, remorse, self-loathing, shame or fear of arrest after the theft.

EFFECTS OF KLEPTOMANIA.
✔️Loss of trust between members of society and objection by family member.
✔️Depression
✔️Guilt
✔️Job loss
✔️Financial penalties
✔️Trouble with police.

TREATMENT
Kleptomania is extremely difficult to treat alone, so getting medical help is a necessity for most who experience it. Treatment typically involves a combination of psychotherapy and medications which can help address triggers and causes.
